BURSA, which was known under the name of Olympus in the ancient times and situated to the northwest skirts of Uludağ, has been a scene for the settlements since D.C 500.

In the ancient times, its name was Prussa ad Hypium and took its name from Prusias, the king of Bithynia. On these fertile lands many tribes such as Bithynia, Lydia, Persian, Rome and Byzantine ruled once upon a time. In Roman time, Bursa was known for its baths and hot springs built over especially on thermal waters and decorated with architectural works of art and Bursa developed in commerce by sustaining the same features itself in Byzantine times. Ottomans ruled over the region as from 1299 and BURSA was conquered by Mr. Orhan on April 6, 1326.

After the conquest, it became the centre of Ottomans and, by interest shown by the sultans to city, it had many monuments. Bursa is at the position of the treasure of Ottoman architectural works of art. Bursa showed great developments in the Ottoman times and became the centre of culture and trade. The city of Bursa looks like as if it is wearing a crown with the magnificent view of the Uludağ. The city has become renowned as GREEN BURSA with the rich flora enlivened by the Uludağ waters.

Today it is identified with its fabrics coming from the history, the silk industry, its medicinal springs, towels, Iskender kebab, candied chestnut, peach, strawberry, Kemalpaşa dessert, olives, knife business, İnegöl meatball and winter tourism centre Uludağ. When touring the city, it will ensure a practical easiness following up the skirts of Uludağ stretching from the east to the west.
